Do cats use telepathy? 猫のテレパシー

My answer is Yes.

Yesterday, I was going to give Shizuka, our female cat, parasite protection agent.
I looked at the little tube on the shelf just to check where it was, without saying anything,
and then, look at Shizuka, and, as soon as our eyes met, she dashed away!
She KNEW what I was up to: hold her down to get her back a little wet, which she doesn't like.

Actually, this kind of thing happens often with both of our cats.
Not only they get what I'm thinking, it also happens that, when our eyes meet,
I literally hear what they want spelled out into my head.

But most mysterious of all was with Haru, the cat at my parents home that died a few years ago at 21.
Haru liked milk, and, whenever anyone would drink milk,
she would get her share in her dish.
Now, I used to visit their home once or twice a week
to cook dinner after my mother had a stroke 19 years ago.
Sometimes, I would cook things like white stew or "gratin", which would require milk.
Haru would usually be sleeping upstairs when I arrived,
so she wouldn't see me putting the milk carton in the frigde.
But when I satarted cooking, Haru would emerge out of nowhere.
She would stay put, sitting down in front of the fridge expectantly, until I reached for the milk.
Now that she passed away a few years ago, it remains a mystery how she knew about the milk.

What did I do with Shizuka's protection agent?
Well, she is not very smart, so by the time I came back from errands a few hours later,
she had totally forgotten about it, and she was easily caught and applied the drip. :)

猫がテレパシーを使うかと言えば、答えはイエスだ。
昨日は、静に虫よけ薬を付けようと思っていたのだが、
薬の容器が置いてあるのを目で確認したあと、静と目があった途端、
なにも言っていないのに察知して、すっ飛んで逃げて行った。

実はこのテのことはよくある。
こちらの思いを読まれるだけでなく、
猫の思いがはっきりとしたことばで頭の中に飛び込んでくることもあるのだ。

それでも、いまだに不思議なのは、以前実家で飼っていたハルである。
ハルは牛乳が好きで、誰かが牛乳を飲むときは必ずお皿にうっすら分けてもらっていた。
１９年前、母がくも膜下出血で倒れてから１０数年間、
私が毎週実家に通って晩御飯を作ったりしていたことがあった。
クリームシチューやグラタンを作るときは牛乳を買っていくわけだが、
そのことを誰にも話していないし、もちろんハルにも言ってないし、
実家に着いたとき、ハルはたいてい２階で寝ているから、
牛乳を冷蔵庫に入れるのを見たわけでもないのに、
夕食の準備を始めると、どこからともなくハルが現れて冷蔵庫の前に座っているのだ。
調理が進んで、私が牛乳を出すために冷蔵庫を開けるまで。
数年前にハルは亡くなったから、いったいどうして牛乳のことがわかったのかは、
謎のままだ。

さて、静の虫よけ薬だが、逃げられたのでその時は知らん顔をして買い物に出かけ、
数時間後に戻ってきたときにはあっさり忘れていたので、まんまとつかまり、
無事に塗布することができましたとさ。
