An early autumn drive 初秋のドライブ

We had many rainy days this month.  I took advantage of the first sunny day in 9 days to drive to Hakone to check on a land lot I inherited from my father.  I meant to go there in June, but dense fog forced me to turn around.

久しぶりの晴天を利用して、箱根までドライブ。父から相続した土地(原野)を年に一度くらいは見に行くことにしていて、6月に墓参りのあと行こうとしたものの濃霧に阻まれてかなわなかったので、日が短くならないうちに行くことにした。

I paid a visit to our family grave in Yugawara as the anniversary of my mother's death comes in a few days.  The "Higan" week when people usually visit their family grave just ended a couple of days ago, so today was a quiet day. 

母の命日も近いので、きょうも湯河原で墓参していくことにする。

お彼岸の直後なので、お寺は森閑としていてよかった。

Then I drove to Lake Ashinoko in Hakone to have lunch at a lakeside cafe I once visited with my late husband.  The reflection of the sun on the lake was beautiful here, too.

奥湯河原を抜けて芦ノ湖へ。以前夫と立ち寄ったことのあるティールームで昼食。ここでも湖面に日差しがキラキラと美しい。

　

After checking on  the land lot, I drove to the other side of Hakone to stop by at an big outlet park in Gotemba.  I meant to take a photo of Mt. Fuji on the way, but missed the spot to pull over.  Instead, I took a photo of view on the bridge at the park where dragonflies were swarming.  Like many other shopping districts across Japan, 80 percent of the shoppers were Chinese.

｢原野」にすすきでもあれば切ってきて家に飾ろうかと思ったけれど、未舗装道路を苦労して通って行ってみたそこは木が茂りすぎてすすきなんかありゃしない。早々に引き上げて御殿場アウトレットへ。途中富士山の写真を撮ろうと思っていたのだけど、ベストスポットのふじみ茶屋の看板を見落として通り過ぎてしまい断念。アウトレット内の橋の上にトンボが群れをなしていたのを代わりに撮ったけど、よくわかんないな。

　

I was hoping to buy some shoes, but couldn't find anything appealing, so I had some cafe mocha, bought a pair of sandals to wear on my balcony, and went home.

広いアウトレットを一回りしたけど、格別欲しいものもなく、カフェモカを飲んで、ベランダ用のサンダルだけ買って帰る。東名は集中工事で渋滞したけど、まずまずの初秋のドライブだった。
